Lunes, 20 de enero: No habrá clases para el personal ni para los estudiantes en honor al Día de Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Nuestros estudiantes y escuela han sido invitados a participar en la Marcha Conmemorativa del Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. y el evento "Almuerzo con el Rey."
La Marcha comienza en la Iglesia Bautista Misionera St. James en McNair Road y termina en Edgecombe Community College, donde se llevará a cabo una breve ceremonia en el Auditorio Keihin.

We are excited for another fantastic week of teaching and learning at Coker-Wimberly Elementary! There are several exciting happenings in our school and community this week, so please take note:
Monday, January 20th: There will be no school for staff or students in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Our students and school have been invited to participate in the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative March and "Lunch with the King" event.
The March begins at St. James Missionary Baptist Church on McNair Road and ends at Edgecombe Community College, where a brief ceremony will take place in Keihin Auditorium. Following the ceremony, a pizza lunch will be served. The event should conclude around 12:30 PM. This is a wonderful opportunity to unite as a community and honor Dr. King’s legacy.
Tuesday, January 21st: The PTO meeting will be held at 5:30 PM. Please join us to connect with our amazing PTO and support our school community.
Friday, January 24th: At 7:30 AM, we will host Literacy with a Loved One, featuring mother figures. We look forward to seeing you there to celebrate reading and family connections.
Winning on Wednesdays: This week, our students will continue receiving interventions and enrichment opportunities. We are committed to helping our scholars grow academically and in character.

Fourth and Fifth Grade: 10:00–10:30 AM

This is Principal Harley with a few important updates.
All Edgecombe County Public Schools will release students two hours early tomorrow,
Friday, January 10, 2025, due to the possibility of inclement weather. Students will be dismissed at 1:15 PM.
As a reminder, we will celebrate our scholars' achievements tomorrow during the following times:
Kindergarten and First Grade: 8:30–9:00 AM
Second and Third Grades: 9:00–9:30 AM
Fourth and Fifth Grade: 10:00–10:30 AM
Your child’s teacher should have contacted you if your scholar will be receiving an award tomorrow. Our goal is to inspire all of our students to strive for academic achievement, good character, and success. Recognition is earned through hard work, growth, and perseverance, and we encourage our students to see this as an opportunity to set goals and achieve them in the future. We look forward to celebrating those who have met their milestones and supporting all our scholars as they work toward their next accomplishments.
Additionally, our CandyMan Main Event has been rescheduled for Friday, January 17th.

Students may begin arriving at 9:30 AM and the instructional day will begin at 10:00 AM. Thank you for your understanding as we prioritize the safety of our students and staff.

¡Hola, familias de los Delfines! Les habla la directora Harley, y espero que hayan tenido unas fantásticas vacaciones de invierno. Estamos emocionados de darles la bienvenida a nuestros estudiantes mañana para comenzar la segunda mitad del año escolar con enfoque, energía y determinación para terminar con éxito.
Este semestre, continuaremos esforzándonos por la excelencia en lo académico y en el carácter. Nuestro valor del mes de enero es Autocontrol, donde enfatizaremos la importancia de manejar nuestras emociones y pensar antes de actuar.
Aquí hay algunas fechas importantes para recordar en enero:
Los boletines de calificaciones se enviarán a casa el lunes 6 de enero.
Las evaluaciones de mitad de año de iReady se llevarán a cabo del 6 al 24 de enero.
Las evaluaciones de mitad de año de mCLASS se realizarán del 8 al 29 de enero.
Los Premios del Segundo Trimestre se celebrarán el 10 de enero. Hello, Dolphin Families! This is Principal Harley, and I hope you had a fantastic winter break. We are thrilled to welcome our scholars back tomorrow to kick off the second half of the school year with focus, energy, and determination to finish strong!
This semester, we will continue to strive for excellence in academics and character. Our character trait for January is Self-Control, where we’ll emphasize managing our emotions and thinking before acting.
Here are some important dates to keep in mind for January:
Report Cards go home on Monday, January 6th.
The iReady Middle of Year Assessments will take place January 6th-24th.
The mCLASS Middle of Year Assessments run from January 8th-29th.
The second Quarter Awards will be celebrated on January 10th. Please note that not all scholars will receive awards this quarter, as we want to instill in them the true meaning of being recognized for academic achievement and strong character. We encourage all students to work hard and strive to earn an award in the future. Teachers will notify families of award recipients. Awards will begin at the following times...

Due to lower than anticipated temperatures overnight and the possibility of black ice on bridges and overpasses in certain areas of our county, all schools will have a 2 hour delay today, Monday, January 6th. Join us on Tuesday, December 17th for our PTO meeting at 5:30 PM in the Coker-Wimberly Media Center. Following the meeting, we’ll enjoy our Winter Musical Performance starting at 6:00 PM. Scholars are asked to wear black and white. We look forward to seeing you there!
Wrapping Up Because of Winn-Dixie
This week, we will conclude our school-wide read of Because of Winn-Dixie. Please continue to ask your child about the book and the lessons we’ve learned together as a school community.
Early Release and Winter Break
Friday, December 20th, is an early release day, and students will be dismissed at 12:15 PM. This marks the beginning of our Winter Break, which runs from December 23, 2024, to January 1, 2025.

Our guest speaker will be Attorney Tyrell Clemons, and we have a special healthy treat for our Father Figures courtesy of the DownEast Partnership.
Spirit Calendar Update: Tomorrow is Sparkle and Shine Day! We look forward to seeing everyone’s festive spirit.
Winter Music Performance/PTO: Next Tuesday, we’ll have our Winter Music Performance. Participating students should wear black and white and arrive at school by 5:30 PM. The performance will take place at 6:00 PM, immediately following our 5:30 PTO meeting.

📖 One School, One Book, One Community Read-Aloud:
We’re diving deeper into Because of Winn-Dixie this week, reading chapters 6-15. Our focus is on the themes of friendship and community. Be sure to ask your child about their favorite moments so far and how these themes resonate with them!
📅 Upcoming Events & Meetings:
Gold Key Student Recognition: We’re thrilled to celebrate our outstanding Gold Key students at the Board of Education meeting on Monday, December 9th, at 6:00 PM in Keihin Auditorium on the Tarboro campus of Edgecombe Community College.
School Improvement Team Meeting: Tuesday, December 10th, at 3:30 PM in the media center.
Literacy with a Loved One: On Friday, December 13th, from 7:30–8:00 AM, we invite our Father Figures to share a special morning of literacy and connection with their children.
Santa Visits Pre-K & Kindergarten: Santa will make a magical stop to visit our youngest Dolphins on Friday, December 13th. We know this will bring lots of smiles and holiday cheer!

📢 Attention 3rd Grade Families!
Your third grader received a letter explaining North Carolina's Read to Achieve requirements. This law mandates that students demonstrate reading proficiency to advance to the 4th grade.
The letter outlines five ways your child can meet this requirement and what happens if additional support is needed. Please review the letter carefully and contact your child’s teacher with any questions.
